Job Description
We are seeking a Corporate Controller to join our New York City-based Finance team as we scale to the next phase of growth. This critical, senior-level role will lead the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timeliness across all financial operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the monthly close process, managing the general ledger, and producing financial statements in accordance with GAAP. The Controller will also own internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance, while partnering closely with Finance leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
As a key leader within the Finance organization, the Corporate Controller will build and manage a high-performing accounting team and collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, HR, and Operations. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise, experience in media or digital-first environments, and the ability to scale systems and processes as the business grows. They are detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving company.
This is a role for someone who thrives in the details but never loses sight of the strategic big picture - someone who can optimize operational excellence while architecting scalable, future-state systems and processes. This role reports directly to the CFO.
Responsibilities:
- Set the strategy for the accounting function, designing processes and systems that support and enable the company's tremendous growth and commercial initiatives.
- Own full-stack accounting operations across multiple entities and multiple revenue streams (eCommerce, wholesale, digital advertising, experiential marketing, and creator rev-share arrangements)
- Drive and continuously improve the monthly close process, financial statement preparation, and multi-entity consolidation
- Manage cash operations and forecasting, including daily cash control and oversight of accurate 13-week cash forecasts
- Ensure US and global tax compliance, including income tax, multi-state sales and use tax, and statutory filings; advise the CFO regarding tax and legal entity planning
- Evaluate and enhance our financial system stack (currently: QBO, Cube, Carta, Bill.com) - propose new tools, optimize workflows, and lead implementations that dramatically improve efficiency
- Research, document, and implement advanced accounting policies to maintain strong internal controls and ensure GAAP compliance, particularly around ASC 810 (consolidation and control of partnerships/similar entities) and ASC 606 (revenue recognition in general and multi-element arrangement in particular)
- Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary technical accounting resource for the entire organization
Qualifications:
Required:
- US CPA designation required.
- 12+ years of combined accounting and/or finance experience including minimum 2+ years as a Controller, Assistant Controller or Director of Accounting role.
- Prior public audit experience combined with experience managing audits from the client side
- Deep expertise managing complex, multi-entity accounting operations with diverse revenue streams
Preferred:
- Experience with fast-paced, growing startups in the $50M+ revenue or ARR range
- Track record of leading financial system implementations or migrations
- Experience with creator/influencer payment models, business combination and consolidation, and talent rev-share agreements
- Technologically curious and systems-oriented with a builder's mindset - you're constantly seeking ways to improve, automate, and scale processes.
